For the first time in its history, the 100-voice Choir has been recorded on a professional, studio recorded CD, called "Open Up Your Heart". This new recording was produced by Deaf Dog Studio’s Grammy-nominee John Ovnik with guest artists including Grammy-nominated violinist Rachel Barton Pine; cellist Alban Gerhardt; six-time Grammy-nominated pianist Jon Webber; and Mark Walker, drummer and percussionist with the band Oregon. These young people have a common passion and talent for music. They are members of the Chicago Children`s Choir, a Chicago institution and treasure. For nearly half a century the Choir has introduced children from all walks of life and all parts of the city to the world of music.
It is hoped that "Open Up Your Heart" will be a strong financial resource for the Choir whose costs continue to increase. Bank One and JPMorgan Chase made a generous contribution to the Choir by underwriting the cost of producing the new CD.
The Chicago Children`s Choir has appeared all over the world in such prestigious venues as Vienna’s Musikverein, Regina Mundi Church in South Africa and Carnegie Hall in New York. A trip to Japan is planned later this year. This will be the third time the Choir has toured Japan.
The young, dynamic artistic director of the Choir is Josephine Lee, a virtuoso in her own right. "I am fascinated by the children. I have given my soul to this choir. We can create a better world through music," Ms. Lee says. "The entire CD reflects a progression of life, said Ms. Lee.
